Welcome to Festival Zone # 2 for May 2013.

Signature Exhibitions

The official Festival starts in only ten days, but Two Rooms has two exhibitions opening this week. Opening Thursday 23rd May at 6pm is Remapping by Daniel Crooks whose work continues around constructed realities playing with time. Read more about Daniel Crooks work. The other Two Room's offering for this year's Festival is The Order of Things by Neil Pardington. Open to the public on the same day (23 May) is new work by Allan McDonald, Walking in The City, presented by Anna Miles Gallery and starting at Gus Fisher Gallery this Friday 24th May is MikiNobu Komatsu's Light Moods South, with Sholto Buck, an emerging talent. Also now open at Gow Langsford Gallery on Lorne Street is a selection of Tracey Moffat's work alongside that of Anthony Goicolea. This a stellar selection to see. And on at NZ Film Archive now is Allan Sekula's film essay The Forgotten Space (2010).

Talking Culture Symposium 1st & 2nd June

The 2013 Auckland Festival of Photography kicks off  with our Response - Talking Culture Symposium,  a two day symposium (June 1 & 2, Auckland Art Gallery Auditorium) exploring photographers responses to natural disasters. Response  includes the work of Magnum UK’s Chris Steele-Perkins, and features presentations from Andrew Quilty, and Giles Crook (Aus), Kit Wise (UK), Fofoga Setolga Tuala (Samoa), Michel Varisco (US) and  Allan McDonald and Richard Mahoney (New Zealand). Portfolio Reviews - June 8th 2013

This is an excellent opportunity to show your work to people who matter in the photography sector. Meet the experts and get your work appraised by a panel of top level curators and camera artists - Dieneke Jansen, Photographer & Senior Lecturer, AUT, Harvey Benge, Curator, Writer, Photographer, Marie Shannon, Photographer and Ron Brownson, Senior Curator, NZ & Pacific Art, Auckland Art Gallery.
